Our Heritage

Original Chapel circa 1958

When Rodney Ahlberg, Sr. opened the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in 1958, he realized his dreams of developing his gift of helping people cope with death and owning a mortuary.  He instilled his passion and values in the following generations of his family, who remain dedicated to delivering the quality of service that best exemplifies Rodney's ideal that dignity in death ends for no one.  After Rodney's death in 2003, three generations of the Ahlberg family continue to serve families in this tradition.

Rodney Sr. always felt it was his calling to be a part of the funeral industry so that people could receive the care and compassion they needed during a difficult time.  Rodney Sr. served in North Africa and Italy during WWII.  He returned to Longmont after the war where he met Corrine Brown, who would become his wife and partner in the business.

Rodney Sr. and Corrine started out from very humble roots in the basement of the First United Methodist Church from 1958 until 1963, when they were able to purchase the current building from the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Over the years, as Ahlberg Funeral Chapel continued to grow, our family has added on to the original building. In adding new state rooms for visitations, a place to hold receptions, garages, purchasing adjacent lots to offer convenient parking, and adding an on-site crematory, we are able to better serve the needs of the ever-growing community.

Having three generations of the Ahlberg family working at the chapel is something we're very proud of.  Randy Ahlberg joined in 1977 after graduating from San Francisco College of Mortuary Science and Rodney “Rod” Ahlberg, Jr. joined in 1983 and helped their father run the business. They also assisted their father as Deputy Coroners for the Boulder County Coroners Office from 1983-1987 while Rodney Sr. was Coroner.  Torre Ahlberg, Randy's son, and Adam Nystuen, Rod and Randy's nephew, joined the family in 2008 and 2009, respectively, after graduating from college.
