Obituary for Doyle L. Myers

Doyle L. Myers, the son of Ray T. and Florence R. (Fleming) Myers, was born near Willeshire, Ohio on July 19, 1931. He died on January 5, 2019 in Longmont, Colorado at the age of 87.
He graduated from Decatur Jr. – Sr. High School in Decatur, Indiana in May of 1948. He enlisted in the US Navy in November of 1950 after the start of the Korean War. He went through boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station and entered Electronic Technician School also at Great Lakes. After graduation in 1951, he was assigned to the Lualualei Transmitter Station (T-66) on the island of Oahu, Hawaii for the rest of his enlistment.
While at Great Lakes, he married Marcella Kiess Myers on July 7, 1951 who accompanied him to Hawaii. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in September 1954 as an Electronics Technician First Class – ET1, he returned to Ft. Wayne, IN. He worked as a broadcast engineer at radio stations, WANE Radio and WGL while a student at Purdue University Extension.
In 1957 he transferred to the Purdue campus at West Lafayette and worked at Radio Station WBAA while attending classes. During his studies he became a member of the ETA KAPA NU (HKN) electrical engineering honorary society.
He graduated as an Electrical Engineer (BSEE) in 1959. In 1968 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a Masters of Business Administration (MBA). He worked in the field of Quality Control Engineering for 35 years, retiring from full time work in May of 1995. During his career he became a Registered Professional Engineer in Indiana in 1970 and later became a Senior Certified Quality Engineer. He got bored with retirement and went back to work, part time at Sears in 1996 until his retirement in April 2012. In 2003 he and Marcella relocated to Longmont to be near their children.
He is survived by his wife of 66= years, Marcella (Sally) Myers, their children, Roger Dean Myers of Boulder, CO and Sue Ann Myers of Longmont, CO and one brother, Ervin R. Myers of Titusville, FL.
Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel followed by a burial in the National Cemetery of the Pacific, also known as the Punch Bowl, located in the crater of Diamond Head Volcano in Honolulu, Hawaii.
