Obituary for Wayne Ingomar Burnett

Wayne Ingomar Burnett, age 90, passed away November 2, 2018 at the Colorado State Veterans Home in Aurora, CO.

Wayne was born in LaCygne, KS on October 12, 1928 to Cullen Ingomar and Mabel Ruth (Snyder) Burnett. His early years were in Linn County KS, and Waukaegen, IL, before a year at Pittsburg State University then on to the University of Kansas to graduate with a BSc in Aeronautical Engineering.

Wayne served with the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1953 during which time, as a Gunnery Officer, he saw combat with the WESPAC Fleet. After being honorably discharged from the service, Wayne began his career working for McDonald Douglas in St. Louis in connection with NASA and the astronauts in the designing of the Apollo lunar soft landing craft. He retired from McDonald Douglas in 1975 and made Longmont, CO his home. There he worked for Technetics and Western Region Research.

Wayne belonged to the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans becoming a Vice Commander and Chaplain involved in many community services. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and hunting and, in later life, walking.

Wayne is survived by two of his five brothers and their families, Norman (spouse Jenifer) and Richard (spouse Donna) Burnett; and several nieces and nephews.
