Obituary for Joseph V. Lindley

Joseph V. Lindley of Denver died peacefully in the loving care of his wife and son at home, he was 82. “Papa Joe” was born on March 9th, 1936 in West Helena, Arkansas to Mary Merle (Jenkins) Lindley and Ernest Hubert Lindley.

Joe grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from St. Aloyisious High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1957 during the Korean Conflict, obtaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was Honorably discharged in 1957. Joe worked as a Computer Engineer Programmer for 30 years with IBM in New York, Washington, Maryland and Colorado, before retiring in 1987. He was then offered the opportunity to continue to work for IBM in Retiree Relations, part-time for an additional 5 years.

Joe married Dorothy Jane Lewis on May 3rd, 1959 in Kingston, New York. Being married to the love of his life for 59 years.

He was a life member of the American Legion, IBM Quarter Century Club, BPOE, Westview Presbyterian Church (Longmont) and associate member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (Boulder) where he served as a Trustee for many years. He was also active in the Boy Scouts and volunteered in his granddaughter’s school. Joe held a Real Estate Brokers Licensee and enjoyed working with house plans. He enjoyed his “Breakfast Club” with his son on occasion and friends at Perkins, and the Donut Shop. He also enjoyed Square and Ball Room Dancing.

Joe is survived by his devoted wife Dotty of Denver, son Jay Arthur Lindley and his wife Lula of Denver, Granddaughters Ashley Maria Lindley and Isabelle Kebebush Lindley of Denver. A Brother Darrell Damare of Denham Springs, Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Brother Douglas Lindley of Metairie, Louisiana, Sisters Yvonne McCarthy, and Shirley Ann Haynes, both of New Orleans. A son Mark Joseph Lindley who died in 1983 and daughter Laura Lee Lindley who died in 1999. Daughter-in-law Eleonore Luis Anaydos Lindley.

A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30am on Thursday September 6th at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 4215 Grinnell Avenue, Boulder, CO. Rev. Dr. Scott Schiesswohl officiating. Private burial will be at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, CO. Ahlberg Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
