Obituary for Permelia McIver

Permelia McIver, 85 of Allenspark, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on September 9, 2018. Permelia was born August 20, 1933 in Sacramento, CA, the only child to Alfred S. and Permelia G. (Hays) Mattson. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Harry Turner in Omaha, NE as well as Norfolk and Cairo, NE. She attended the University of Oklahoma, Hastings College in NE and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO where she studied music and sang in Choir.

Pem, as she was most well-known, married Paul McIver in Cairo, NE on August 27, 1955. Shortly after their union, they briefly moved to Evansville, IN and then settled in Arvada, CO where they lived for over 42 years and raised their children. She worked various jobs in her youth, but her proudest accomplishment was being a homemaker, or as she preferred, “Domestic Goddess.”

Pem was a gifted singer, pianist, painter, writer, crocheter, and photographer. She loved adventure and most often in the form of camping, traveling, and reading. She adored animals, especially cats, dogs, and horses. She was known for her homemade gifts and various cookies and candies that she skillfully made at Christmas every year.

In 2003, she and Paul moved to Allenspark, CO, where her heart was, the location of many of her adventures. Despite the many physical complications she faced, Pem remained upbeat, positive, and determined. She always accepted the next challenge courageously and without complaint.

Pem is preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Alan Dale Thomas. Pem is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Paul McIver and their three children; Steven (Jane) McIver of Allenspark, CO, Stewart (Jodi) McIver of Firestone, CO and Rachel Thomas of Basalt, CO as well as seven grandchildren; Jennifer, James, JoAnn, Kara, Lindsay, Amber, and Sidney, and eleven great-grandchildren; Alexandra, Jaxon, Aurora, Sylas, Noah, Athena, Isaiah, Hazel, Bentley, Sintia, and Nyella.

Inurnment will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
