Obituary for Martin Bangma

Martin Bangma
Martin Bangma, 83, of Longmont, Colorado, passed away on April 11, 2018 at his home.

Martin was born on September 22, 1934, in the village of Oppenhuizen, Friesland in the Netherlands. He emigrated to Artesia, California in the spring of 1946. He married Johanna Wybenga on February 28, 1962. He was a hardworking and successful dairy farmer who owned and operated his own dairy in Ontario, California for 34 years. He officially retired in 2000, but continued to work and spend his time on the dairy to help two of his sons carry on the family business. When one of his sons left California to own and manage his own dairy in Mead, Colorado, Martin moved to Longmont, Colorado in 2007. He enjoyed visiting and supporting his son’s new venture as well as the beautiful, sunny Colorado weather. His favorite pastimes included listening to classic country artists, such as Hank Snow and Mac Wiseman, and leading worship for the Primetimers, a senior Bible study group at Calvary Church in Longmont. He also enjoyed reading, particularly the Bible, and books about farming, health, and history.

Martin is survived by his wife Johanna, son Sam (Connie) Bangma of Tulare, California, Corrina (Mark) Hotra of Windsor, Colorado, Marty Bangma of Chino, California, Joanna (Steve) Hoekstra of Long Beach, California, Wes (Kelly) Bangma of Johnstown, Colorado, Elaina (Steve) Marshall of Ontario, California, sisters Rheta (Bill) Dragt of Strathmore, California and Ann Vis of Simi Valley, California, and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Ida and a brother Arthur.

A Celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 am Friday, April 20, 2018 at Calvary Church in Longmont. Viewing will be prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Foothills Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Gospel for Asia. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
