Dorothy Marie (McKinney) McClure, 99, of Berthoud, Colorado, formerly of Meridian, Idaho, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in Longmont, Colorado.
Dorothy was born March 12, 1919 in Boise, Idaho to Joseph and Clara (Opie) McKinney. Dorothy attended country grade schools, and graduated from Meridian High School in 1936; as student body president. For a brief time, she attended Links Business College.
On November 12, 1939 she married her high school sweetheart, J. Doyle McClure, in her parent’s home. In May of 1940, Doyle and Dorothy bought their first (and only) home on State Street in Meridian; where she lived for 75 years.
Two special children were born to the couple; Joseph Doyle McClure, Jr. in 1941, and Ann Marie in 1944.
Dorothy worked at Strawn’s Office Supply in Boise for many years. In August of 1969, she was hired as secretary to Eugene Dorsey, the Publisher of the Idaho Statesmen. In June of 1983, she retired from that position.
Following the unexpected death of Doyle in early 1984, Dorothy returned to The Statesman as secretary to the Production Director; a position she held until September 2007. Working for The Statesmen brought much joy and pleasure to her life. She always told people, “it was the best job I ever had”.
She loved football; professional teams and Boise State. Doyle and Dorothy hosted annual Super Bowl parties; a tradition she carried on even after Doyle’s death for 44 years. Entertaining friends and family for dinners was a favorite too. Dorothy loved her cats, and they loved her.
Gardening was another enjoyment she and Doyle shared together, and she continued until moving. The yard and gardens on State Street were lovely; she especially liked roses, dahlias, and geraniums.
Dorothy moved to Colorado to live with her daughter, and be closer to her three granddaughters, and a special great-grandson in September 2015. The girls and Brody had a close and special bond with their ‘Meme’.
She was a parishioner of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a member of P.E.O. for 80 years, and past matron of Eastern Star and Guardian of Job’s Daughters.
Dorothy was proceeded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Doyle McClure; son, Joseph Doyle McClure, Jr.; sisters, Jane Kitching, Emily Edwards, and brother Joseph McKinney.
Survived by her daughter Ann Zuercher of Berthoud, Colorado; granddaughters: Heidi Zuercher of Loveland, Colorado, Lisa Zuercher of Denver, Colorado, and Leslie Orlick (Scott) of Milliken, Colorado, and great-grandson, Brody of Milliken, Colorado; daughter in law, Diana Dresbach of Nevada City, California; nephews and nieces, Joe McKinney (Rose) of Nampa, Idaho; Donna Guarrochea (Leo) of Gooding, Idaho; Carol Bradshaw (Gary) of Fairfield, Idaho; Delores Reynolds (Robert) of Boise, Idaho, Monte McClure (Bev) of Meridian, Idaho; Sharon Gibson (Harvey) of Star, Idaho; Dennis Taylor (Lela) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Arlene Parisot (Neil) of Helena, Montana; Cathy Cusack (Mike) of Telluride, Colorado; Tammi McClure of Middleton, Idaho; numerous great nieces and nephews and many special friends.
