Obituary for Patricia Campbell (Ellwing)

Patricia Campbell (Ellwing)
Patricia Joan Campbell, the daughter of Ruben G. and Helen E. M. Ellwing, was born in Glendale, CA on April 9, 1939. As a young child Pat lived with her parents in Glendale and Burbank, CA. Her parents later moved to a permanent family home in Pasadena where she grew up with her younger sister, Beverly, and many close relatives from both sides of the family in nearby Southern California communities.

Pat completed her primary education in local Eagle Rock, CA schools and maintained a close relationship with her Swedish Covenant Church while attending college at Seattle Pacific University and Los Angeles State College where she graduated with a BA degree in elementary education. Pat was certified as a teacher and taught in the Los Angeles school system for a few years before embarking on a life’s adventure in the Mojave Desert with a long-time girlfriend as school teachers at Edwards AFB. Pat met her husband, Jim Campbell, at Edwards AFB in September 1964 and was married in her home Swedish Covenant Church on July 9,1965. Pat’s Uncle Bud (her mom’s brother, Rev. David Newquist) was the minister at the wedding celebration. Jim was the first non-Swede to be welcomed into the Ellwing family. “Ja, Mycket Bra!”.

Pat honored the Lord as a loving wife, mother, and friend to many as she moved through multiple military relocations across the country. As the family grew she focused on her home and three children born in different parts of the country. Pat was always a “homemaker” and shared God’s love with her family, neighbors, and friends at a local church.

In 1984 Pat and Jim moved to a permanent home in the Boulder County foothills. As the family matured Pat continued her focus as a true home maker and expanded her activities with the children and at her new church home, Calvary Church in Longmont. She had great joy in her participation in the women’s ministries and children programs at Calvary. She maintained many old and new strong prayer partner relationships in her personal life.

Pat’s health degraded significantly during the latter years of her life. She continued to honor the Lord through all her trials as she suffered severe pain and many physical limitations. Friends and family would always be greeted with “I’m fine” and a smile.

Pat died at the BCH Foothills Hospital in Boulder on January 2, 2018. She is survived by her husband, Jim; children Kristin Astin, Natalie Drella, and Matthew Campbell; their spouses; seven grandchildren; and sister Beverly Danielson.

Pat now dwells with the Lord and is likely singing His praises in a loud voice with a smile, I’m fine.

Memorial services will be 1:00pm Saturday February 3, 2018 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers or a contributions Pat’s family encourages you to take your loved ones out to dinner and remember Pat. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
