Obituary for Ernest "Ernie" Kollar

Ernest "Ernie" Kollar
Ernest P. “Ernie” Kollar, 83, of Longmont passed away April 12, 2017 at Longmont United Hospital. He was born May 4, 1933 in Vandling, PA to Ernest Joseph and Celia (Cherney) Kollar.
Ernie graduated from Michigan State University Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. He served in the US Army.
He married Julie Doyen on June 18, 1960 in Essexville, Michigan. They moved to Longmont in 1965 from upstate New York.
Ernie was a Senior Mechanical Engineer with IBM. He was one of their top inventors with over 21 patents. He retired in 1980. After retiring with IBM, he patented a log siding with false tenon structures for homes and buildings. He founded and built Hygiene Feed Store. Farming in the Hygiene area was his passion.
Ernie was a devout Catholic. He built the altar for St Francis Catholic Church. He volunteered at Longmont United Hospital making plaques for cancer and heart patients. He provided Lay Eucharistic Ministry to the patients at Longmont United Hospital for 12 years. He dearly loved his wife and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Kollar.
Ernie is survived by his wife Julie, three sons; Ernest P. Kollar Jr. (Barb), David A. Kollar (Shirin), Christopher J. Kollar, three daughters; Marie A. Jordan (Greg), Anne M. Sandoval (Nick), Margaret C. Madamba (Jessie); a brother Donald W. Kollar (Joanie) and eleven grandchildren. He is survived by many cousins.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10:30 AM, Saturday April 22, 2017 at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 3791 Pike Rd, Longmont, CO 80503. Inurnment to follow lunch, later in the afternoon at Hygiene Cemetery. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Contributions can be made to St Francis or St John the Baptist Catholic Church for their building funds. Share condolences at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com
