Obituary for Robert Bonsall Jr.

Robert Bonsall Jr.
Robert James Bonsall, Jr. passed away February 15, 2017 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 90 years old.

Bob was born Dec. 24, 1926, in West Chester, PA to Robert & Violet (McClintock) Bonsall, Sr. He married Betty J. Pell on Sept. 16, 1950 in Beacon, New York. They moved to Longmont in 1965 from Poughkeepsie, NY.

He worked as a System Analyst for IBM and retired in April, 1989.

Bob was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, American Legion Post 32 and the Moose Lodge #1548.

He served in the US Army from 3/3/1945 to 12/21/1946. Bob was discharged to the Army Reserve where he served for 14 years, being recalled to active duty 4/8/1948 to 4/8/1952 and attained the highest NCO rank of Sergeant Major.

Bob enjoyed bowling and softball. He was a member of the Longmont Bowling Hall of Fame and was most proud of receiving several MVP awards during his long career playing senior softball.

Above all, he was thankful to have been blessed with three wonderful sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Raymond and Richard Bonsall and sisters Kathleen Davis and Joanne Cox and brother-in-law Ronald Davis.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty, sons Glenn (Debra) Bancroft, NE, Duane (Linda) Longmont and Trent (partner Sebastien Almon) Montreal, Canada; grandchildren Scott Bonsall (Heidi), Christopher Bonsall (Candi), Nicole Johnson (Brian), Melissa Hicks (Zach) and Sarah Bonsall; great grandchildren Brooke, Taylor and Rebecca Bonsall, Chase, Cydnee Bonsall and Madisyn Hicks, brother James Bonsall (Nancy); sister Mildred Spencer (Arthur), sister-in-law Susan Bonsall; brother-in-law Leonard Cox and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held 2:00pm Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Visit www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com to share condolences.
